2017

Association officers and members participated in monitoring flag-related legislation in the regular session of the 85th Texas Legislature.

The Association was represented at the 121st Annual Meeting of the Texas State Historical Association by Vice President Hugh L. Brady and Secretary-Treasurer Charles A. Spain. The meeting was held March 2-4 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Houston.

The Association was represented at the 27th International Congress of Vexillology in London, England. Prof. Brady served as the Association's delegate to the 25th General Assembly of the Fédération internationale des associations veillologiques. Judge Spain attended the Congress and the General Assembly as the FIAV Secretary-General and was re-elected to that office.

2016

The Association was represented at the 120th Annual Meeting of the Texas State Historical Association by Vice President Hugh L. Brady and Secretary-Treasurer Charles A. Spain. The meeting was held March 3-5 at the Omni Mandalay Hotel, Irving.

The Association was represented at the 50th Annual Meeting of the North American Vexillological Association-Association nord-américaine de vexillologie in Campbell, California. Mr. John S. Adcock was elected as the treasurer for 2016-2017 and Prof. Brady and Dr. Scot M. Guenter were re-elected to the nominating committee for 2016-2017.

The Association continued its financial support of FIAV’s and NAVA’s general administrative activities.

2015

Association officers and members participated in monitoring flag-related legislation in the regular session of the 84th Texas Legislature.

The Association was represented at the 119th Annual Meeting of the Texas State Historical Association by Vice President Hugh L. Brady and Secretary-Treasurer Charles A. Spain. The meeting was held March 5-7 at the Omni Hotel, Corpus Christi.

The Association was represented at the 26th International Congress of Vexillology in Sydney, N.S.W., Australia. Dr. Scot M. Guenter served as the Association's delegate to the 24th General Assembly of the Fédération internationale des associations veillologiques. Judge Spain attended the Congress and the General Assembly as the FIAV Secretary-General and was re-elected to that office.

The Association was represented at the 49th Annual Meeting of the North American Vexillological Association-Association nord-américaine de vexillologie in Ottawa, Ontario. Prof. Brady received the Captain William Driver Award for the best paper presented at the meeting and was re-elected with Dr. Guenter and Mr. H.P. (Pete) Van de Putte to the nominating committee for 2015-2016.

The Association continued its financial support of FIAV’s and NAVA’s general administrative activities.

2014

The Association was represented at the 48th Annual Meeting of the North American Vexillological Association-Association nord-américaine de vexillologie in New Orleans, Louisiana. Vice President Hugh L. Brady was presented with the first past president’s streamer for his personal flag in recognition of his six years of service as the 16th president of the association and was elected to the nominating committee for 2014-2015. Dr. Scot M. Guenter and Mr. H.P. (Pete) Van de Putter were re-elected to the nominating committee for 2014-2015.

The Association continued its financial support of FIAV’s and NAVA’s general administrative activities.

2013

Association officers and members participated in monitoring flag-related legislation in the regular and special sessions of the 83d Texas Legislature.

The Association was represented at the 117th Annual Meeting of the Texas State Historical Association by Vice President Hugh L. Brady and Secretary-Treasurer Charles A. Spain. The meeting was held February 28-March 2 at the Worthington Hotel, Fort Worth.

The Association participated in the efforts to secure the transition of the Flag Research Center collection to The University of Texas’s Dolph Briscoe Center for American History. Prof. Brady, Judge Spain, and Dr. Scot M. Guenter participated in ceremonies marking the transfer in Boston during July. Dr. Guenter and Mr. H.P. (Pete) Van de Putte, Jr., were elected by the Board of Directors as Fellows of the Association for their work to help secure the collection's transition.

The Association was represented at the 25th International Congress of Vexillology in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Prof. Brady served as the Association's delegate to the 23d General Assembly of the Fédération internationale des associations veillologiques and delivered a report to delegates on the status of the FRC collection. Judge Spain attended the Congress and the General Assembly as the FIAV Secretary-General.

The Association was represented at the 47th Annual Meeting of the North American Vexillological Association-Association nord-américaine de vexillologie in Salt Lake City, Utah. Judge Spain was elected as a Whitney Smith Fellow for his outstanding contributions to vexillology in North America. Prof. Brady was re-elected as president of the association for 2013-2014. Dr. Guenter and Mr. Van de Putte were re-elected to the nominating committee for 2013-2014.

The Association continued its financial support of FIAV’s and NAVA’s general administrative activities.

2012

The Association was represented at the 116th Annual Meeting of the Texas State Historical Association by Vice President Hugh L. Brady and Secretary-Treasurer Charles A. Spain. The meeting was held March 1-3 at the Omni Houston Hotel, Houston. Among the presentations was "James H. Beard and the San Jacinto Battle Flag," by Dr. Robert Maberry, a Wharton Award winner. Dr. Whitney Smith was elected by the Board of Directors as a Fellow of the Association for his special aptitude for vexillological scholarship through distinguished published works and other exemplary scholarly activity.

The Association was represented at the 3d Annual Save Texas History Symposium, “The Civil War in Texas: Death, Disease, and Minié Balls,” by Prof. Brady. The symposium was held Sept. 15 at the Thompson Conference Center at The University of Texas. Dr. Maberry lectured on "Battle Flags: Texas Pattern—The Lone Star on Texas Confederate Flags."

The Association was represented at the 46th Annual Meeting of the North American Vexillological Association-Association nord-américaine de vexillologie in Columbus, Ohio. Prof. Brady was re-elected as president of the association for 2012-2013. Dr. Scot M. Guenter and Mr. H.P. (Pete) Van de Putte were re-elected to the nominating committee for 2012-2013.

The Association continued its financial support of FIAV’s and NAVA’s general administrative activities.

2011

Association officers and members participated in monitoring flag-related legislation in the regular and special sessions of the 82d Texas Legislature.

The Association was represented at the 24th International Congress of Vexillology in Alexandria, Virginia. This meeting was also the 45th Annual Meeting of the North American Vexillological Association. Vice President Hugh L. Brady served as the Association's delegate to the 22d General Assembly of the Fédération internationale des associations veillologiques. Secretary-Treasurer Charles A. Spain attended the Congress and the General Assembly as the FIAV Secretary-General. The Fédération board named Dr. Scot Guenter and Prof. Brady as Fellows of the Fédération for their significant contributions to vexillology and service to the Fédération and its members at the official dinner. Dr. Guenter was elected as an honorary member of NAVA. Prof. Brady was re-elected as president of the association for 2011-2012. Mr. H.P. (Pete) Van de Putte was re-elected, and Dr. Guenter elected, to the nominating committee for 2011-2012.

The Association continued its financial support of FIAV’s and NAVA’s general administrative activities.

2010

The Association was represented at the 44th Annual Meeting of the North American Vexillological Association in Arcadia, Calif. Vice President Hugh L. Brady was re-elected as president of the association for 2010-2011. Mr. H.P. (Pete) Van de Putte was elected to the nominating committee for 2010-2011.

The Association continued its financial support of FIAV’s and NAVA’s general administrative activities and underwrote part of the costs of the Fédération's recognition program.

2009

Association officers and members participated in monitoring flag-related legislation in the regular and special sessions of the 81st Texas Legislature.

The Association was represented at the 23d International Congress of Vexillology in Yokohoma, Japan. Dr. Scot M. Guenter served as the Association's delegate to the 21st General Assembly of the Fédération internationale des associations veillologiques. Secretary-Treasurer Charles A. Spain attended the Congress and the General Assembly as the FIAV Secretary-General. The Fédération board posthumously named Harry W. Oswald as a Fellow of the Fédération for his significant contributions to vexillology and service to the Fédération and its members at the official dinner.

The Association was represented at the 43d Annual Meeting of the North American Vexillological Association in Charleston, S.C. Dr. Whitney Smith was elected as an honorary member of NAVA and the organization’s president emeritus. Vice President Hugh L. Brady was re-elected as president of the association for 2009-2010

The Association continued its financial support of FIAV’s and NAVA’s general administrative activities.

2008

The Association was the local host and organizer of the 42nd Annual Meeting of the North American Vexillological Association this year. The second vexillological conference held in Texas sponsored by the Association, or VAST 2, NAVA 42 was held from 10-12 October 2008 in Austin, Texas. The conference marked the 75th anniversary of the 1933 Texas Flag Act which officially re-established the Flag of the Republic as the State Flag of Texas. Dr. Whitney Smith was made an Honorary Texan by the governor of Texas, and he received his official certificate at the Saturday dinner. Vice President Hugh L. 2007

Spain attended the Congress and the General Assembly as the FIAV Secretary-General.

The Association was represented at the 41st Annual Meeting of the North American Vexillological Association in Glastonbury, Conn.

The Association continued its financial support of FIAV's general administrative activities.

Spain attended the Congress and the General Assembly as the FIAV Secretary-General.

The Association was represented at the 39th Annual Meeting of the North American Vexillological Association in Nashville, Tenn.

Association officers and members participated in monitoring flag-related legislation in the regular and special sessions of the 78th Texas Legislature.

The Association was represented at the 20th International Congress of Vexillology in Stockholm, Sweden. Secretary-Treasurer Charles A. Spain served as the Association's delegate to the 18th General Assembly of the Fédération internationale des associations veillologiques and attended the Congress and the General Assembly as the FIAV Secretary-General. The Fédération board named Dr. Scot M. Guenter as a Laureate of the Fédération for his original, outstanding contribution to the science of vexillology by his book The American Flag, 1777-1924: Cultural Shifts from Creation to Codification at the official dinner.

The Association was represented at the 37th Annual Meeting of the North American Vexillological Association in Montréal, Que.

The Association continued its financial support of FIAV's general administrative activities.

2002

The Association was represented at the 19th International Congress of Vexillology in York, England. Dr. Scot M. Guenter served as the Association's delegate to the 17th General Assembly of the Fédération internationale des associations veillologiques, which admitted the Association as a Full Member of the Fédération. Secretary-Treasurer Charles A. Spain attended the Congress and the General Assembly as the FIAV Secretary-General.

The Association was represented at the 35th Annual Meeting of the North American Vexillological Association in Norfolk, Va.
